    This region includes a sequence that functions in a mouse transgenic model as an enhancer in the hindbrain and neural tube. The corresponding region in mouse is composed of multiple different enhancers that are thought to regulate the expression of the Pax6 (paired box 6) gene in the brain, heart, and eye. A subregion was also shown to be an enhancer by the ChIP-STARR-seq massively parallel reporter assay in naive human embryonic stem cells, where it is marked by the H3K4me1 histone modification.
